Open to all freshmen who enjoy literature or creative writing, strongly encouraged for English majors, minors, or those considering English; Residential-optional (open to students living both on and off campus)

The English Learning Community is for students with an interest in literature or creative writing. While based in the Department of English, the ELC welcomes all majors, including “undecided.” Participation can increase your success in college and provide an environment that helps develop friendships and support, while adjusting to university life. We do this through social activities and community involvement. Features of the program include peer mentors, individualized advising (including early career exploration), instructional support, and early connections with the English faculty as well as with a variety of campus academic, cultural, and social programs and resources. We highlight the interrelated themes of literacy, the arts, and community in our participation in a full range of Charlotte’s rich cultural resources.
