The communication studies learning community is a nonresidential program designed to give selected pre-communications majors a head start in college and ultimately their communication careers. Learning community members can form bonds with other pre-communications majors as they share some classes, engage in extracurricular activities and go on field trips to media organizations. The program begins with a freshman seminar course that introduces faculty members in the department and orients students to the university. In the second semester, students will have a devoted section of public speaking, a prerequisite for students declaring a communication major.
